It was way back in 1992 when expert actress Tanuja's darling daughter Kajol made her debut opposite Kamal Sadanah in Rahul Rawail's (considered an expert in launching newcomers) 'Bekhudi.
Though, it was not until a year later that Kajol got her first big business success via Abbas-Mustan's 'Baazigar'. Her co-star in the film was a relative newcomer from Delhi, who went by the name Shah Rukh Khan. And that was the start of one of the most successful (if not the most) pairing of the Hindi cinema and a 'jodi No.1' in the real sense. It was followed in quick sequence by box office hits like ‘Karan Arjun’, ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ and ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’. After a brief gap of three years the SRK-Kajol team made another dominant return with ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’.
From the above mentioned list there is no doubt that Aditya Chopra’s directorial debut venture, 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ can be termed as a party classic and the biggest hit of them all.
After countless success, here is another landmark for the longest running movie in the history of Indian cinema. Presently in its 720th week (at Bombay's Maratha Mandir), the film has crossed 12 crores just from Bombay city (without Thane).
An amazing, indeed, especially in view of the fact that it is considered impressive even for films releasing currently to cross the 12 crore figure from Bombay city with just a handful having managing to do so till date.
The incident could not have been more apt for ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ as today, (August 5) is Kajol’s birthday.
Here’s wishing Kajol many many happy returns of the day and umpteen more superhits, particularly her upcoming Karan Johar project ‘My Name Is Khan’, which re-unites her with none other than her favourite, King Khan!!
