RAKHI PRAISES SHAHID FOR SAVING HER LIFE

His timely intervention averted accident.

Rakhi Sawant just can’t stop talking about how Shahid Kapur saved her life on the sets of “Dil Bole Hadippa”.

According to unit sources, Shahid, Rani Mukerji and Rakhi were shooting a sequence for the song “Discowale Khisko”.

Rakhi was standing near a light stand after the shoot when suddenly Shahid noticed that the stand was not properly bored into the ground. He casually walked up to Rakhi and without alarming her told her to move.

The light stand could have fallen on Rakhi any time.

Shahid then told the crew members to fix it properly. Rakhi was so overwhelmed by the gesture that she went on telling everybody that Shahid saved her life.

‘DIL BOLE HADIPPA’ IRKS SIKH COMMUNITY

They mainly have two objections. “Dil Bole Hadippa” is the latest victim of the Sikh community’s ire, after “Singh is Kinng” and “Love Aaj Kal”.

The Sikh community has two issues with the movie.

One objection is with Rani Mukerji’s character in the film. She plays an adult character but wears a ‘patka’. Ideally all adults are supposed to wear a turban and not a ‘patka’, which is for young boys.

Secondly they are upset with the way the title of the film is written on the posters.

The posters show a ‘patka’ sign in place of a dot on letter ‘I’ in the title word “Hadippa”.

The Punjabi Cultural and Heritage Board has raised a furore against these issues. The chief of the Board, Charan Singh Sapra, has also met the producers Yash Raj Films to sort out the issues.

Sources close to YRF said that they have full respect for the Sikh community and hence they have addressed all their concerns. Also the objectionable portions from the film have been deleted and new posters with the necessary changes are ready for release.

I WAS INADEQUATE FOR POLITICS, SAYS AMITABH BACHCHAN

It’s a job he’ll never recommend to anyone. Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan, who was a Lok Sabha MP in 1984-87, says he quit politics because he felt he was "inadequate for the job".

"Many ask me why I joined politics and why I left it. I joined it because I was asked to and left because I was inadequate for the job," Bachchan posted on his blog.

The veteran actor came into politics at the behest of friend and then prime minister Rajiv Gandhi. He contested the Lok Sabha election from his hometown Allahabad in 1984. He won by a huge majority.

He says it is a tough job to be a politician and admires those who have managed to stay put in it.

"Politics is a complicated world - a world where if you are unable to play the game, you would remain a novice and a stranger eternally. I admire those who have remained in it for long years. (I) admire the guile with which they steer their boats every day, every minute. The ease with which they make associations and break them, reject foes and months later embrace them as dearest friends. It is a tough job.

"A job that I would never be able to do. I would never recommend it to anyone. But I do know that those who pursue this line do so with utmost dedication and passion. Their dedication and passion is admirable," he said.

Bachchan is currently in Singapore with his politician friend Amar Singh. The Samajwadi Party leader underwent a kidney transplant there.

ASIN UPSET WITH ‘LONDON DREAMS’ PROMO

Salman Khan-Ajay Devgan steals limelight. Now that the first promo of Vipul’s Shah’s “London Dreams” has been released, leading lady Asin is said to be not too happy with the very small footage that she has got in the trailer.

While Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan feature highly in the promo, Asin has just one shot, which is a bit disappointing considering how big a hit was “Ghajini”, her debut Hindi film and she has a lot of expectations from “London Dreams”, her second Bollywood release.

Asin apparently has raised her voice against this and has directly spoken to director Vipul Shah.

According to sources, Asin went and met Vipul and voiced her displeasure against the first theatrical promos. Vipul told her that since it is a story about two friends, Salman and Ajay have been shown prominently. He also tried to convince her that she is an important part of the film and the rest of the promos will feature her prominently.

But Asin reportedly was way far from being convinced.

'3 IDIOTS' WILL RELEASE ON CHRISTMAS, CONFIRMS AAMIR

Actor and wife away from home, in one quiet spot. Aamir Khan, who is spending time with wife Kiran Rao after her miscarriage last month, says his much-awaited "3 Idiots" will hit the screens in December.

"Vinod (Vidhu Vinod Chopra) and Raju (Raj Kumar Hirani) tell me that the post production on '3 Idiots' is progressing well - so by the time I get back, the cut (final product) will be ready. Which means I can confirm to all those of you who have been repeatedly asking... yes, '3 Idiots' will be releasing on Christmas this year. I'll see the cut once I get back," he wrote on his blog.

He didn't reveal his whereabouts, but informed: "Kiran and I are away from home, in one very quiet spot, just lying in and resting. Reading, going for walks, watching films."

The actor says he is utilising his time to catch up on a few films and books - something that he hasn't been able to do thanks to his chock-a-block schedules.

"There are so many films to see, and books to read. One life time is not enough. Books, I read, but films I never get down to seeing.

"Strange, since, I love cinema so much. It's not as if I don't enjoying watching films. I really do, in fact when I watch a film I forget to blink and my eyes start hurting after a while. But for someone who is so steeped in films I have watched pathetically few films in all these years," he said.

Aamir is glad that he has finally managed to watch 1994 American film "The Shawshank Redemption", which was recommended to him by many.

"Just saw '(The) Shawshank Redemption'. Had heard so much about this film. It seems to be on a lot of ‘must see' lists. Really enjoyed it," he added.

Mallika Sherawat is having such a blast meeting Hollywood celebrities in Los Angeles, where she is parked, for during the post-production of her film Hissss, that it doesn't look as if she's planning to come back to India anytime soon.

While dining with friends at the Polo Lounge in the Beverly Hills Hotel, Mallika met Oscar winning actor-producer-director Warren Beatty and Jake Gyllenhaal, star of the upcoming Hollywood film Prince of Persia. SONAM ADVISES ANIL NOW

Sonam Kapoor is thrilled by dad Anil Kapoor’s second round the period after Slumdog Millionaire.

Anil, who’s busy shuttling between Los Angeles and Mumbai, is continuously asking for advise from Sonam. And while all of 22, the actress is totally dedicated to what her father must do and what he must not. An insider says when Anil wanted to do a round of interviews during the release of Shortkut: The Con Is On, it was Sonam who advised him to stay quiet. She knew SD and Shortkut were two ends of the pole and she didn’t want her father to rationalize why he went from one to the other. So Sonam just asked her father to stay quiet, and talk when something more stunning comes along. Now that’s a great combination of beauty and brains.

BIG B VOICE-OVER FOR 26/11 ALBUM

Amitabh Bachchan to do voice-over for album paying homage to 26/11 terror attack victims.

Even as we see a compliment to the legendary Michael Jackson by the cream of Bollywood union in a recent video, composer Aadesh Shrivastav is busy putting together a video as his tribute to the victims of the terrible disaster that brought Mumbai to an idle on November 26. Aadesh is creating an album of peace to pay homage to the victims of the 26/11 terror attacks. And he has roped in Amitabh Bachchan to do the narration for it.

Aadesh believes that Big B’s voice will do the best justice to the album which will have tracks sung by various classical and pop artistes not just from India, but abroad too. He wants to make the powerful voice a binding factor. Aadesh says, “No one else can do justice to this album. Only Amitji can serve as the perfect common thread to all the national and international artistes who are coming together for my album.”

To speed up things and make sure that he can release the album in November, the first anniversary of the blasts, Aadesh is flying down to Singapore where Amitabh is enjoying a holiday.

Aadesh’s album will also bring together Amitabh and Javed Akhtar on the same project after a gap of nearly two decades.

IMRAN PROPOSES, AVANTIKA ACCEPTS

It’s official! Bollywood’s young heartthrob Imran Khan is busy to his sweetheart and longtime girlfriend, Avantika Malik.

And though the actor is keen on making the formal statement only in January, the industry has already raised a toast to the couple.

“Yes it’s true. But we’re setting up to have a proper ceremony later, so right now it’s just for us and our families,” admitted Imran refusing to disclose the wedding date. But, a source said, “Imran had thrown a surprise party for Avantika on her birthday on July 18, a very private affair, with only very close family and friends present. There he surprised everyone by proposing to Avantika. Amidst much cheering, she accepted.”

But Bollywood got smell of the news last week at Arjun Rampal’s nightclub opening in Delhi where Imran and Avantika were spotted. When Arjun found out about the couple’s engagement, he doubled the celebration proportion by announcing it. Several Bollywood biggies including Karan Johar who were present congratulated them.

The couple, who’ve been dating for quite a while now, have always been candid about their relationship and are always seen attending parties and events together. Now that the two have taken their relationship to the next level, when’s the wedding?

SRIDEVI LOVES SALADS

Have you seen Sridevi lately? She’s looking fantabulous. Slim, svelte... almost ravishing.

But what does she eat? Salads, salads and more salads. We saw the actress recently at a birthday party strut her plate with salads and almost no other food. Not only does the diva eat well, she also makes her daughters Jahnvi and Khushi eat healthy, too. So when she was filling their food plates, she had a vigorous mix of salads plus a few goodies to make the girls happy. What about her husband Boney Kapoor? Well, Sri tries her level best to make Boney eat healthy as well. She has cut down on his chocolate eating totally, and she has also asked him to give up his love for green chillies. Of course, she still can’t get Boney to live on salads and sprouts only, but at least she is instilling healthy eating habits in Boney, who is a typical Punjabi with a fondness for good food.

RITEISH DESHMUKH BACK TO SCHOOL

Riteish Deshmukh has reasons to feel ‘nostalgic’ these days. The 30 year-old actor will be seen sporting a school bag in Eros International’s Aladin directed by Sujoy Ghosh. He plays a nerdy teenager.

Aladin is a contemporary look at the classic fairy tale where Riteish plays the title character. However, in Sujoy’s version, Aladin shares nothing other than his name with the protagonist of the famous fairy-tale. Here Aladin is a shy, young man who is constantly bullied by a certain gang of boys in his college. Since Riteish plays a college student in the film, he was required to carry a bag. The actor suggested using a sling, since that is very popular with the youth today. However, Director Sujoy insisted on Riteish carrying a typical school bag as it would be a perfect fit with his reclusive character in the film.

Riteish immediately disagreed, but later decided to try it out on Sujoy’s persuasion. He was given a worn-out brown leather bag by Art director Sabu Cyril to try on. After giving a few takes with the bag, he discovered, to his own surprise that the bag indeed added that ‘authentic’ touch to his character in the film and gladly agreed to carry it.

Riteish said, “Sujoy is a brilliant director and knows exactly what he wants. He was very sure about his portrayal of Aladin and though I was initially hesitant, I realised that the bag completely matched Aladin’s personality.” And how was the school-going experience? “Carrying that typical ‘two-shoulder’ school bag initially felt weird, but it was fun too. It was like reliving my school days after all these years,” reminisced Riteish.

AMERICA DOESN’T KNOW ASH AND ABHI

Stars are worshipped like demi-gods in India and people would do anything to get only a glimpse of their favourite stars. Thus stars cannot live normal lives in India but that is not the case when they go to foreign shores where few people know them.

Earlier this week, Ash and Abhi were spotted grocery shopping by a source in Chicago, USA. She told us, “Abhishek and Aishwarya were in the sweets lane at the Walgreens store located near Water Towers in Chicago. Walgreens is a supermarket chain like Walmart. In India, its equivalent would be Food Bazaar, Big Bazaar and Le Marche. They were there buying cookies and cereals. It was raining and Ash was wearing jeans and a black hoodie while Abhishek was wearing a dark jacket with jeans.”

She adds, “Abhishek looked pretty ordinary and pretty Ash, with her fair skin and blue eyes, blended in with the locals. No one made a fuss over them. There were no starry airs. They were shopping like any other couple. There was only one Indian in the store. Abhishek was checking from the side of his eye if that person recognized him and would approach them for autographs but nothing like that happened. After buying what they wanted, they walked out into the street hand-in-hand without any security. There was no car waiting for them.”

Though Aishwarya is an internationally known face and the Bachchan parivaar was photographed at the US premiere of Pink Panther 2, the couple wasn’t hounded by the paparazzi. The only Indian celebrities that get paparazzi attention in the States are Frieda Pinto and Dev Patel of Slumdog Millionaire fame.

So the formula to live a normal life where strangers and fans don’t go ga-ga over you is crazy. Don’t wear make-up, maintain a low profile and do your grocery shopping in a foreign country.

KANGNA TURNS STYLIST

Known for her chic and classy style quotient, Kangna Ranaut was at home when there was designer to style her for her latest film.

Samir Karnik, the director of the upcoming romantic flick Vaada Raha, starring Bobby Deol and Kangna Ranaut was in a fix when there was no designer to report on the last two days of shoot to style Kangna. Sources say, “Rather than creating a fit like any other actress, Kangna acted thoroughly professional and styled herself with the clothes from her wardrobe. She’s looking completely different from her usual avatar and everyone will be pleasantly surprised.”

From what we have seen of the promos, Kangna looks dewy fresh in sarees, something that one does not readily associate with Kangna, sarees! Ahem, ahem.

Kangna’s penchant for dressing up is known by one and all, the actress loves to create her own styling concoctions as seen at many events. The actress loves to dress up in Narendra Kumar Ahmed, Chanel and Rikroy and is one of the classiest dressers in B-town, known for carrying off many risqué ensembles with panache.

So the news of her turning stylist isn’t that much of a surprise, still we cant wait for Kangna to start her own line, that will be sharing her gift with the world what say?

IT WAS AMAZING WORKING WITH MADHUR: NEIL

When actor Neil Nitin Mukesh arrived in the city recently, the girls pushed and shoved to catch a glimpse of the oh-so-cute star! And well, Neil quite enjoyed the attention!

Said he, “The craziness and warmth of Delhiites gives me a kick.” And stressing on the point further, he said, “They are totally crazy.”

Lekin, despite the Delhi’s crazy quotient, he really likes the city. “Delhi roads and traffic management takes the trophy away from Mumbai,” he said, adding, “Mumbai roads are always congested, unlike Delhi roads which are so spacious.”

With talks that he would be seen playing a pole dancer in a forthcoming flick doing the rounds, we quizzed him to know more, but he simply brushed it away as rumours! Instead, he got talking about his forthcoming flick, Jail. “I am quite thrilled about it. Madhur (Madhur Bhandarkar) is an institution in himself and it was amazing working with him. I am eager to see the final product.”

BEBO GIVES IT UP FOR AAMIR

Don’t make any plans for Kareena Kapoor’s birthday this year. The actress who turns 29 on September 21, is going to be busy on her film 3 Idiots with Aamir Khan, so bechara Saif Ali Khan will have to rework whatever surprise he had in mind for his Bebo.

Originally, she had wanted to spend time with Saif, mother Babita, sister Karisma and niece Samaira around her birthday... but tragedy struck Aamir’s close and happy little khandaan, and Kareena stepped to the rescue.

You know that Aamir’s wife Kiran Rao suffered a miscarriage earlier this month, and that Aamir promised Kiran he would take time off from 3 Idiots to help her recuperate from the trauma.

What Aamir didn’t realise when he made that emotional commitment was that he had given dates with Kareena to shoot a song in Mumbai during the very same period. Hesitantly, he called up his co-star and asked if she would reorganise her own diary to accommodate him at another time. And Kareena agreed, at the cost of her own birthday plans, because she realised how big Kiran’s trauma was.

Now Kareena and Aamir will shoot the song from September 25 to October 2 in Mumbai. She was in Switzerland all the while and is expected back in Mumbai today. While Aamir is in Europe. The actor has left behind his two cell phones and prefers to be incommunicado for the period that he spends with Kiran. He wants nothing to come in the way of her recuperation.

YES, I'M HOT & SEXY: BIPASHA

Hot and sexy that’s the trite image the junta has of Bipasha Basu. And, well, she isn’t sorry about it because at the end of the day, every woman seeks to be just that. But what the actress fails to comprehend is why people can’t see beyond the evident.

Bipasha, who has done some amazing work in Madhur Bhandarkar’s Corporate and Prakash Jha’s Apaharan and shown her own hysterics in Rituparno Ghosh’s Shob Choritro Kalponik besides proving she’s no bimbette in Vishal Bhardwaj’s Omkara, said indignantly:

“Despite this, if I have to fight the stereotypical image that filmmakers have of me being just hot and sexy, then it is rather sad. There are a set of people out there who are myopic.”
Perhaps the Bengali beauty has a point. In all fairness one must say she has juggled the sexy parts with the meaningful ones. In the year of Corporate where she displayed acting prowess she also did Dhoom-2 where she romped around in a bikini.

“To remember one and overlook the other is unfair,’’ argued the actress. Her current lot of films though are a happy mix. There is Sanjay Gupta’s Pankh, where she is an actress on screen, Ajay Devgan’s All The Best — a madcap comedy that is a big ticket bet this Diwali, and Priyadarshan’s untitled venture where she has “a thinking role’’.

“Good work is happening,’’ admitted Bipasha. “Priyadarshan is someone I also wanted to work with. He is a filmmaker with foresight and I know I’m in a pair of very capable hands.’’ She is also happy with the way Ajay Devgan’s release has shaped up. “All The Best is one laugh-a-riot,’’ revealed the actress. “Believe me, we not only had a blast shooting it, we had a blast even while dubbing for the film because it’s a situational comedy that is so funny.’’

However, what comes as a shock is the news that Bipasha who has always had cordial relations with her female co-stars, is now having a cold war with Mugdha Godse, the other girl in All The Best. “Are you buying this story,’’ she asked incredulously.

“I read somewhere that I had stopped Ajay Devgan and Fardeen Khan from going to Mugdha’s party. Am I some mastermind who can actually stop my co-stars from doing what they must?’’ She herself was at an official event that day with her co-star Neil Nitin Mukesh because boyfriend John Abraham was not in town. She remembers wishing Mugdha and sending her flowers, a card and chocolates. “Over the years, I have rarely had a problem with my co-stars,’’ said Bipasha. “With some girls I’m friendly, with others I’m cordial. But to suggest that I have a cold war going with Mugdha is ridiculous.’’

I DON'T LIKE JOHN TOO MUCH: SALMAN KHAN

Salman Khan tells Abhijit Majumder he will bid for one of the two new teams and speaks about the whole thing from SRK to Islam.

YOU are there, imperceptibly pinned to the wall by fear as the huge, bear-like Saint Bernard casually amble up to you.

"Don't panic, take your fears head on, run into them," advises a grinning Salman Khan, wearing just his blue gym shorts. "Come, let me bring in you to Saint. He's a safe baby."

For the next hour or so, you have him talking about new films, SRK, Katrina, Islam, close to everything.

He confirmed in this interview at his Bandra Bandstand house on Friday afternoon that he certainly wants to buy an IPL team.

So this is Salman unplugged (just kidding... anybody who has spent some time with him knows an entirely unplugged Salman is too candid, raw and politically shocking even for our pages).

I'M NOT GETTING MARRIED THIS YEAR: SHILPA SHETTY

Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty is distress over news that she is set to tie the knot with London-based businessman Raj Kundra by the year end. She makes clear that she isn't getting married this year.

"I've said before, I will make an official declaration the day my parents decide on my marriage date and I promise the press will have at least a month to celebrate the announcement. So to set the record directly, no I'm not getting married this year. Yes, I am looking at next year, but date not decided," Shilpa posted on her blog.

A British newspaper reported Thursday that the actress would be getting married between September and December in Britain after her father, Surendra Shetty, wrote so in an application to an Indian court.

But Shilpa has slammed the news. "I am sick and tired of people calling me to clarify after they've put it as breaking news on some channels and wasted reams of paper on pretend news articles," she said.

Shilpa is also upset over the leakage of the details her father gave to the court to acquire his passport.

"My poor dad is already having a tough time every time he has to travel abroad and has to apply for his passport, and as alway it's harrowing enough for him to go back and forth every time for his passport...," she said.

Surendra Shetty's passport was reportedly confiscated after he was charged with threatening a business associate he claimed owed money to his daughter. Since then, he and his wife Sunanda have only been able to travel overseas with the court's permission, which is why he applied for the passport on the alleged pretext of Shilpa's wedding.

"My dad's 67 and ageing, please let the poor man live in peace and dignity, it's annoying. I request the press to report responsibly and not make any baseless assumptions," stated Shipa.

SRK GETS VISHAL-SHEKHAR, HRITHIK, SHAHID, PRIYANKA, KATRINA FOR MJ TRIBUTE

Some of the leading names from the film industry would be seen paying tribute to Michael Jackson on his 51st birthday. Come 29th of August and Shah Rukh Khan, Vishal and Shekhar, Shahid Kapoor, Shankar Mahadevan, Prabhu Deva, Priyanka Chopra and Yuvraj Singh amongst others would be featuring in a music video titled 'Make it Large- A tribute to Michael Jackson'.

It was Shah Rukh Khan's idea to get a compliment rolling for the music legend that passed away on 25th June this year.

Says Vishal Dadlani of Vishal-Shekhar duo, "The whole world was upset about his demise and so were Shekhar (Ravjiani) and I. We happened to meet Shah Rukh and he also uttered his thought about doing something that would be relevant the stature of the man who entertained us for decades. This is how the idea around the music video was born."

Vishal and Shekhar soon set a task for themselves and began working on the song. It was decided that the music video would be launched on 29th August to coincide with Michael Jackson's birthday. While Vishal also wrote the lyrics for the song, some of the best singers in the industry - Shankar Mahadevan, Shaan, KK and Shreya Ghoshal - were roped in come behind the mike.

"For the moment, the idea is to launch the music video across all music channels just for one day. It is obtainable on Red Chillies Entertainment website though", informs Vishal who is currently holidaying in London.

Directed by Samar Khan, a close associate of Shah Rukh and director of films likeShaurya and Kuch Meetha Ho Jaaye,'Make it Large- A tribute to Michael Jackson' is also special since it features Prabhudeva who is yet again seen at his dancing best.

Also, the video features testimonials on Michael Jackson from Shah Rukh Khan himself along with Shahid Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra, Katrina Kaif, Anushka Sharma and Yuvraj Singh.

To extend the tribute, Vishal and Shekhar would also be allowing free download of the song at their website beginning 29th August.

"The video wasn't created for making money. It's a tribute and I am sure there are millions out there who would want to grab a copy of the song for themselves. We are more than glad to share our sentiments with the rest of the world", concludes Vishal.

IT'S MADS, AMRITA TOGETHER FOR HUSSAIN

Maqbool Fida Hussain to paint Madhuri Dixit and Amrita Rao on the identical canvas; will soon make a film with the two in lead roles....

After painting several solos of his favourite ladies — Madhuri Dixit and Amrita Rao, renowned artist MF Hussain is now geared up to paint the two together on the same canvas for the very first time. The motivation for this painting comes from a film, which will star Amrita and Madhuri, and will be made by Hussain.

“Hussain has even asked Madhuri and Amrita to visit him during Diwali this year to talk about the logistics of the film,” said a source.

Confirming the story, Hussain said, “I do a lot of combination paintings. I have started working on the Madhuri and Amrita painting. It should be ready in a month’s time.”

Along with the painting, Hussain has also begun working on the film.

Confirming his plans of making a film with the two Bollywood actresses, Hussain said, “It’s a bit early to reveal any details but yes, there is one such project in the channel. I want to make a film starring Madhuri and Amrita. I believe that my painting is imperfect unless I make a film on it.”

When asked if unlike his previous films Gaja Gamini (2000) and Meenaxi: A Tale Of Three Cities (2004), he would now like to make a commercial film, he replied, “No. I don’t want anybody to order what I have to make.”

KAREENA'S NOT A DEVICE FREAK

All her friends have an exacting model of a high-end phone but Kareena Kapoor is not persuaded to buy a related one for her.

Says she, “I don’t want everybody to ping me persistently.” The actress says one has to keep one’s confidentiality at least at some point in life. “I love my friends, I love spending quality time with them,” says Bebo. “Though there are times when I like to switch off totally. I don’t want to share every moment of mine,” she adds.

BOLLYWOOD SET TO SHINE AT TORONTO FILM FESTIVAL

Event’s co-director gives the details…

Bollywood is set to take the public interest at the Toronto International Film Festival starting on September 10. For the first time, the world's premier film event will premiere two Bollywood films - "What's Your Raashee?" and "Dil Bole Hadippa".

"You know, last year our audiences launched 'Slumdog Millionaire' that went on to win everything (at the Oscars). And this year, we are delighted to have two Bollywood movies under big banners making their world premiere," Cameron Bailey, Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) co-director, told IANS in an exclusive interview.

He said: "It is the first time that two Bollywood films are making their world premiere here. We had major Bollywood films in the past, but not for world premiere. We had their special presentation and galas with the stars. Those films had opened just before the Toronto festival and we had their presentation."

Bailey, who for myself selected the two films during his visit to Mumbai in July, said: "These films were in the final stages when I was in Mumbai. These are highly predictable films and we will be thrilled to see their stars like Rani Mukerji, Priyanka Chopra and Hurman Baweja in town."

An keen fan of Rani, Bailey said: "Rani is terrific. She can go the whole range - from serious dramatic roles to light comedy. Here (in 'Dil Bole Hadippa') she is in the role of a woman who loves cricket but cannot get on the team because she is a woman. It has that Shakespearean conceit when she dresses as a man to get on the team."

Rating Priyanka one of the most versatile actors today, he said: "Priyanka is incredible. In this film ('What's Your Raashee?'), she does 12 roles transforming herself into 12 totally different women. Now that is unbelievable."

He said the film festival will also be privileged to host Ashutosh Gowariker whom he described as one of the best directors in India.

"We had Ashutosh here previously as director of 'Lagaan'. He is a great maker of period films with such an attention to detail.

"But what is different about him this time - and people would love to see it - is that he has done a contemporary film ('What's Your Raashee?'), and it is a love story. Wow, he has not done that before. I am sure he will prove himself to be a master again."

Bailey, who gave a big break to Bollywood at the festival three years ago by organising a gala presentation for the film "Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna" in the presence of Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar, said he is determined to raise Bollywood's profile here for two reasons.

"One, we have an avid audience which comes (only) to see Bollywood films and their stars in town. Two, we want to introduce Bollywood to our audiences that do not know this kind of cinema."

In fact, he didn't rule the future possibility of live musical performances by Bollywood stars at the festival.

"We would love to showcase the musical part of Bollywood, and it is something we may consider down the line," he said.

"Many may not see it that way, but Bollywood is already a mainstream global player. Stars from Bollywood are globally recognised. People who make and finance Bollyood films are global players. See what Reliance is doing in Hollywood as a major player," he added.

The 34th film festival, which runs from September 10 to 19, will feature more than 300 films, including 100 brand-new, from 64 countries.

PRIYANKA TALKS ABOUT HER PAST ON TV SHOW

She reveals what it was like growing up in Bareilly.

Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra, who made a style avowal with her hot pants and bridle tops in "Dostana", wasn't permissible to wear a pair of jeans at home during her growing up years.

The 27-year-old actress, who was brought up in She reveals what it was like growing up in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, faced these boundaries at home after returning from the US, where she had gone to do her high school.

"I wasn't permitted to wear short skirts and then my jeans were also taken away. And my mother got 12 salwar kameez sets made for me so that I wore only those because when I used to go to school, guys used to follow me," Priyanka exposed on Farah Khan's chat show "Tere Mere Beach Mein".

But that phase is over for Priyanka who is counted among the most glamorous actresses in Bollywood today.

She will be seen with boxing champion Vijender Singh on the show on STAR Plus on Saturday (Aug 29). They would be seen talking about what it’s like growing up in smaller cities.

SALMAN IS NOT BUYING ANY IPL TEAM, SAYS BROTHER SOHAIL

There was a buzz yesterday that Salman Khan is setting up to buy an Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket team, like Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta and Shilpa Shetty.

Salman met IPL commissioner Lalit Modi yesterday at a suburban Mumbai hotel, after which he told the media that the actor had shown interest in buying an IPL team, "He has been concerned in buying a team for quite some time.

Today, we had a brief meeting and I explained how to go about with the task. I can assure you that Salman is not the only star who is idea of buying a team. I have had around 28 queries and the list will surely go up," he said. Modi also admitted that having a film star added to the glitter of the event. "It does add to the spark," he said.

According to Modi, the price tag fond of to a new IPL team would be in the region of $200 - 300 million. Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra shelled out almost $15 million for a 12 per cent stake in Rajasthan Royals.

However a source close to Salman says, "He bumped into Lalit Modi at a hotel in Bandra and started chatting with him. It was an informal debate. Salman asked him how he was, what's happening with the IPL and some other details but that was it.

This talk of Salman buying an IPL team has been going on forever. It's just that celebrities bring certain glamour to IPL and people want stars to be associated with them - like Akshay Kumar was the brand ambassador of the Delhi Daredevils. Similarly, many want Salman to be the brand ambassador of their teams."

Salman's brother Sohail Khan says, "It's not true. Salman is not buying any IPL team. Yesterday when he was shooting for Dus Ka Dum I called up bhai and asked him whether it was true and he denied it."

KATZ CELEBRATES GANAPATI

The wonderful Ganpati at Khetwadi’s 12th Lane Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal had a beautiful and illustrious visitor in Bollywood beauty Katrina Kaif on Wednesday evening.

Head covered and bent in respect, hands joined in prayer, and then down on her knees with her forehead touching the idol’s feet, the actress paid her compliments to Lord Ganesh with an ease and sincerity born of long practice at the Siddhivinayak Temple in Prabhadevi.

Is she a Ganesh bhakt? Isn’t everyone who is a Mumbaikar? The actress said she had a lot to be grateful to Mumbai for. And, she believed Lord Ganesh was the presiding god of Mumbai, everybody worshipped Ganpati... she felt a strong connect to the God, that is why she often visited Siddhivinayak.

“Being a part of the puja here is a small gesture on my part to express my gratitude,” said Katrina as devotees gaped in astonishment at her faith and then made a mad scramble to shoot pictures of her on their cell phones.

SHAHID-PRIYANKA ON A SPIN

The grapevine says that Shahid Kapoor has made enquiries about the most up-to-date high end cars that have just arrived in India.

A source from the Mumbai outlet says that Shahid was among the first to show an interest in getting these fancy wheels, and though the car costs something to the tune of crores, he has asked for quotations.

Surprise, surprise when Priyanka Chopra heard us discussing the matter of Shahid’s choice of a new car, she quickly said, “I don’t think he is buying that model, at least not yet. If he was buying it, I would know.” Ahem, ahem, naturally she would probably be the first girl he would take out for a spin.

CAST OF 'AGNEEPATH' REMAKE NOT YET FINALISED

Karan Johar clarifies status of project.

There have been speculations about who will play the male lead in the remake of the 1990 hit "Agneepath". While the names of Hrithik Roshan and Abhishek Bachchan popped up, filmmaker Karan Johar clarifies that no one has been finalised to play the part Amitabh Bachchan immortalised in the original.

"I haven't made any statement whatsoever around the man who would eventually be playing the role of Vijay Dinanath Chauhan that was made iconic by Mr. Amitabh Bachchan. All I have said is that, yes, we are going ahead with a remake of 'Agneepath' and that's about it," Johar told IANS.

Whether it is Hrithik, Abhishek or someone else, Johar must be having a wish list?

"Well, the wish list is to get the screenplay right. For the moment nothing else is more important than that," he said.

Even though the film is being produced under the banner of Dharma Productions, Johar won't be going behind the camera for the movie.

"True, I would be stepping aside and the film would be directed by Karan Malhotra, who has assisted me on 'My Name Is Khan'. That's the only thing which has been finalised... everything else you hear is mere speculation. We will finalise the cast once the script is locked. Currently, it is still in the process of being written," he added.

Malhotra is not really a novice when it comes to filmmaking. He has earlier worked as an assistant director with Ashutosh Gowariker on "Jodhaa Akbar", Farah Khan on "Main Hoon Na", Farhan Akhtar on "Lakshya" and Raj Kumar Santoshi "Lajja and Pukar" amongst others.

Since it is close to two decades since the release of "Agneepath", would the remake have a different milieu to it?

"Certainly! We are adapting the film from the original, but ours would be a New Age version that would fit in well with today's time. We really hope that we are able to do justice to the original and make the remake exciting for today's generation," Johar said.

Dharma Productions, meanwhile, has as many as seven films that are in different stages of production. These are "My Name Is Khan", "Wake Up Sid", "Kurbaan", "Koochie Koochie Hota Hai", remakes of Hollywood flick "Stepmom" and "Agneepath" and "I Hate Love Stories".

How is he managing it all?

"Believe me, it's not difficult at all. All you have to do is to follow a three-point mantra - delegation, outsourcing and trust. Along with that, if you have the right vision and infrastructure in place, which we do have in Dharma Productions, it isn't difficult to crack it all.

"That's the way you manage things and I have been fortunate enough to have a team with which it has become possible to helm a number of projects at the same time," said Johar.

Among the seven films, three are ready to hit the screens.

"'Wake Up Sid' is all set to arrive on Oct 2. 'Kurbaan' will come in late November. Other than that, we are looking at an early 2010 release for 'My Name Is Khan'. Yes, these have been busy and really exciting times," the filmmaker said.

SALMAN TO BUY AN IPL TEAM

Bollywood action hero Salman Khan is the latest cine star to join the Indian Premier League (IPL) gravy train and has spoken interest in buying a team.

Salman met IPL chairman and Commissioner Lalit Modi here Tuesday and was briefed about the nitty-grittes of buying an IPL franchise.

The fourth season of the IPL in 2011 will see two new teams and they would be up for grabs through a bidding process later this year.

Modi said Salman is attracted in buying an IPL team.

"He has been interested to buy a team for quite some time," Modi added.

"Today we had a brief meeting and I explained him how to go about with the task. I can assure you that Salman is not the only star who is thinking to buy a team. I have had around 28 queries and the list will surely go up," he said.

IPL vice-president Niranjan Shah told IANS that Salman is a staid buyer and will bid for one of the two new teams.

"Salman is a serious buyer and is considering buying an IPL team. He came along with couple of his friends and was briefed by Lalit on the procedure to buy IPL franchise," said Shah.

Shah went on to add that cities like Ahmedabad, Nagpur and Vishakhaptanam are in battle to be the hometown for new teams.

"It will be an open tender process and the city that gets the highest bidder will be the new IPL team," he said.

Bollywood stars like Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla are the co-owners of Kolkata Knight Riders while Preity Zinta is also a joint owner of Kings XI Punjab. Shilpa Shetty and her boyfriend Raj Kundra also bought some stakes in Rajasthan Royals.

KAT DIDN’T REPLACE ME: ASH

Some have written her off, some say her crown is under menace. But Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is unaware to such comments.

With her trademark smile in place, the graceful Bachchan bahu set about business, charming one and all during her recent trip to the city. The actress glowed in spite of reports of suffering from swine flu. “As the head of the house, Pa voiced his concerns on his blog about my health. He said I had flu like indication. Soon, word spread that I had swine flu!” said Ash when questioned about her health. But like the whole thing else, these rumours too were put to rest. “Pa had to then make clear that it was just a normal flu,” said Ash while accepting that the Big B’s blog is certainly quite a ‘hit’. “For me it was Pa blogging because he was worried and away from home at that time. But for others, it was like a confirmation of sorts that Amitabh Bachchan says Ash has the swine flu!”

Apart from shooting for Raavan, Endhiran, Guzaarish and Action Replay, Ash also has other professional commitments to honour which takes up a lot of her time. But hey, she’s not complaining. After all, she is the face of some of the most popular brands across the world. “I’ve always been very selective about the brands I endorse. There’s no rat race. Every endorsement has a story behind it. The bottomline is, I don’t like endorsing brands which are anywhere and everywhere,” explains Ash.

And what about rumours of a jewellery brand dropping her for Katrina Kaif? “I would like to say this loud and clear; I chose not to renew my contract with the jewellery brand,” affirms the actor setting the record straight. “I had a contract with another brand under which that particular jewellers came. Once they parted ways, I decided not to endorse them anymore,” she goes on to explain.

Taking the opportunity to put to rest the talk about her being dropped by other brands due to her age, Ash said, “No one every dropped me. I chose not to renew certain contracts. Like the one with the cola brand. Post marriage I decided not to endorse them anymore as Pa and Abhishek were endorsing the rival cola brand. I didn’t want any confusion in the consumer’s mind,” she quipped .

With film and endorsement offers pouring in, Ash is indeed a busy woman just like she was a few years ago. Unlike others, marriage doesn’t seem to have slowed her down. “Earlier, it was tough for a heroine to get work after marriage. Their so-called brand value would depreciate. That didn’t happen with me, as I've always aspired to push the envelope,” she explains.

But she does not take the credit for this alone. “I have to thank the professionals I’ve worked with. They were not regressive and changed with times,” she says. And unlike other contemporaries, Ash always seems pretty secure and confident of her career. “And why not?” she asks going on to add that, “Throughout my career I’ve never said things like, ‘I’m not ready for marriage now’, or ‘marriage will happen only after five or six years’. When I was ready for marriage, everybody knew. I’ve never given escapist quotes.”
But now that she is married into the first family of Bollywood, doesn’t she want to take it slow? “I have a secret pride, you know. I’ve always wanted to work after marriage and I couldn’t see why that should change after I tied the knot,” says Ash, while adding immediately, “Don’t misunderstand me. I’m not a hardcore feminist. I’m a humanist.”

The down-to-earth superstar rewinds, “I’ve had a long and wonderful journey. My photographer friends and others have pointed out that I have improved over the years.” But that did not come easy. “Earlier when a girl signed a film opposite a certain hero, it made big news. But I was not satisfied with just that, I wanted more. There were times when I signed a film and it turned out to be something else. I then brought it something different and new to the industry that protected the rights of the heroine like the MOUs and other contractual changes.”

Ask her if any of it was tough and she says, “Well I’ve constantly learnt and improved as an actor. My efforts have definitely made things a lot easier for my ilk.”

MIND IT!

Aamir Khan jammed the new movie Quick Gun Murugun over the weekend and was surprised by the film.

Aamir, who has been absent from his blog over some weeks now, took time out to write about the film and how people shouldn't miss it. He wrote on his blog, "Just saw Quick Gun Murugun. Really enjoyed it.

I think fans of the Channel V character Quick Gun Murugan will love it. It's got so many rib-cracking instants. And a very well-pitched presentation by lead actor Dr Rajendra Prasad, and all the other cast.

It's releasing on 28th so don't miss it if you are a Quick Gun fan.... Mind it!"

KAJOL REFUSES APARNA SEN!

Buzz from Bengal is that celebrated film-maker Aparna Sen is keen to make a movie with Kajol.

Though Kajol supposedly refused Aparna’s offer because she is already devoted to doing Karan Johar’s movie based on the Hollywood flick Stepmom with Kareena Kapoor, a film that will go on floors later this year, and a part of which will be shot in USA.

While husband Ajay Devgan supports his wife’s decisions to do movies, Kajol herself has a strict program for herself. She preferably wants to do one film at a time because her main concern in life is her six-year-old daughter Nysa and Kajol will not trade anything in the world for Nysa time.

"I'M KILLING MYSELF!" PRIYANKA

There are czarinas and actresses. And then, there is Priyanka Chopra, a great blend of both. PC, who has been busy with compliments for her act in Vishal Bharadwaj’s Kaminey, is totally besieged with bouquets. However, somewhere deep down, she is also a little worried. The good news is that she is on a hat-trick.

For Madhur Bhandarkar’s Fashion she walked away with every award in the book, for Karan Johar’s Dostana she got compliments in large numbers, and now for Kaminey — the praise is still pouring in. “I’m over-awed, I can’t tell you how great it feels,’’ says the natural-born actress.

She says she worked really hard for the part of the feisty, open middle-class Maharashtrian girl, Sweety in Kaminey. “While the hard work paid dividends it also took from me a lot of blood, sweat, tears and more,’’ she sighs.

She is glad that she walked the path less travelled in her movies — Fashion was women-centric; Dostana was a light-hearted typical take on homosexuality; Kaminey got critical praise for being lusciously different.

“In other words, the cinema I have done in recent times has been liberating, it has broken barriers.’’

And, while she is killing herself over reactions to her next film What’s Your Rashee? — Where she essays 12 diversely unique parts, she is seriously worried about the impact of it all on her health.
“I have said this earlier,’’ says the actress, “it’s the same OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) at work. I’ve been warned by my parents (both doctors) and well-wishers not to let work take its toll on me. And, though I wish to pay heed to their advice, I can’t stop myself from getting excessively involved with the work I take on. Honestly, I drive myself to a point of no return when it comes to any part that I undertake in a film. I’m just so involved that it starts to hurt. And I don’t realise I’m bleeding till such time as I’m on a set because I don’t stop to look.’’

The actress has forcibly been ordered a hiatus from the studios by her parents. And, when she returns, she hopes to once again start promoting her WYR? and Pyaar Impossible with gusto.

With some girls — there is absolutely no such thing as a ‘take-it-easy-policy.’ Hai na, PC?

THE SECRET OF RANI'S WEIGHT LOSS

Rani's new look in Dil Bole Hadippa.Yoga expert Payal Gidwani made Kareena Kapoor do 50 Surya Namaskars at a stretch till her plump figure reduced to size zero for Tashan. After months of Yoga, she weighs 49 kilos today, which is the perfect weight for her height. About Rani’s body type, Payal says, “At first Rani had a heavy lower body. She could only do 5-10 Suryanamaskars and had very weak nerves in her body. As a result, stretching would lead to cramps.”

“To increase her cardiovascular patience, I had to integrate simple cardio exercises like walking up and down the stairs of her Juhu bungalow,” says the Yoga expert. “Now Rani has not only lost the extra kilos but she can easily do 100 Suryanamaskars, 2000-2500 Kapalbhati repetitions in one go, she holds on to Asanas for one minute and her breathing technique has improved greatly. There is a glow on her face. All of this was possible because of Rani’s dedication and hard work, praises Payal, adding, “She practiced Yoga for two hours faithfully every morning. I WANT TO WORK WITH BEBO, ONCE IN A WHILE SAYS SAIF

Saif Ali Khan says that he HAS to work with other actors, as must girlfriend, Kareena Kapoor. But at heart, the truth's up there!

Now that Saif Ali Khan's first home production Love Aaj Kal is out of the way, all eyes are on Agent Vinod, the second contribution from his banner. This one features Kareena Kapoor in the lead role.

Then there is Race 2, which also features SAK's ladylove. Is there a possibility the Chote Nawab is separating himself from other actresses because he is dating Bebo? Saif says, "I am not doing Race 2 with Kareena. The script is still being written and then the cast will be selected.

A lot has been written about Kareena's irritation at being left out of Love Aaj Kal, but Saif now has to be doubly careful at the selection of leading ladies for his banner. He says, "We have to be very clear about this thing. It is a profession, and though Bebo and I personally involved but efficiently we are not stupid. I want to work with her, once in a while.

I mean there is so much Saif-Kareena going on even off-screen that no good director will be least interested in casting us. Which I why I am glad that Kurbaan is not your regular love story. And we are not doing the regular kind of things in it."

He reveals that his next home production is totally different genre from the first Illuminati Films' release. "Agent Vinod is edgy, so it will be cool to see us together in that. But obviously, I have to work with other actors and so must she. It is more interesting to see.

I mean I don't want to name other people but there have been star couples in the past on screen, that weren't so exciting. But when you see them with other people, it is refreshing. Actually I think I will take names. At one time John and Bipasha were seen together a lot but one time when they did ads with other people, it was very nice, great and they looked good together.

So we learn from other people, and we don't do that much work together. We have done one Airtel ad together, and a movie. But it feels like we have done ten movies together because of the perceptions.

AKSHAY KUMAR TEACHES SON AARAV TO ROLLERBLADE

Fitness junkie Akshay Kumar wants his son Aarav to be like him. Apart from lessons in martial arts, and cycling, the actor is now coaching his six-year-old son to rollerblade.

Says a source close to Akshay who is at present shooting in London for Sajid Nadiadwala's House Full, "Although Akshay has been shooting very hard from morning to night on the London plan he still is finding time for Aarav and teaching him how to rollerblade. Every day, he makes it a point to keep aside an hour daily to play Aarav's roller blade trainer."

The star papa is maha thrilled with his son's balance and control. Aarav also had a professional trainer hand-picked by Akki. Ever since Aarav joined his dad in London, they have been rollerblading every day.

Akshay himself is a seasoned roller blader. Says a source close to the actor, "He learnt rollerblading when he was in Canada. He also did it in Khiladi 420. Akshay has bought Aarav all the top-notch safety equipment possible for rollerblading like the best quality helmets, wrist guards, elbow pads and kneepads so that even if Aarav falls down his wrists, elbows and remain protected."

SALMAN: DR SHAH RUKH? HA, HA!

Forgetting and forgiving someone is somewhat that doesn’t come easily to Sallu.

With his list of enemies growing by the day – Shah Rukh Khan, John Abraham, Vivek Oberoi, Shahid Kapoor...Sallu never leaves a chance to make sarcastic remarks at them.

Recently, while flipping pages of a famous fortnightly he came across a picture of SRK posing with his doctorate degree, and Salman promptly remarked, “Arre iss doctor ke paas patients ko bhejo aur ilaaj karao na,” (Send all the patients to Dr Shah Rukh Khan and get them treated).

Everyone saw it on ‘Dus Ka Dum’ how he got back at Shahid Kapoor who had tried to exhibit his dancing skills (Shiamak Davar style) and teach Sallu (known for his original dancing skills) a step or two during a rock concert about three years back. While matching steps with Karisma and Kareena on his show, and after performing on one of Shahid’s famous numbers, he grinned, “Don’t you think I dance better than Shahid?”

Perhaps it is with people like Sanjay Dutt and Jackie Shroff that he gels more. They are of his kind, absolutely modest – another quality that he likes in people. And hence there was a lot of firework when these two seniors of his appeared on ‘Dus Ka Dum’ recently.

“The younger generation should learn from these ‘cool’ guys who are not pretentious. They are frank and openly talk about the mistakes they made in the past. They don't fake when they say, ‘this was our life – this is what we used to do - drugs, alcohol, women, today we have left all that and learnt from our mistakes and experiences. “I have a lot of respect for these guys,” said Salman.

MALLIKA BRUNCHES WITH YANNI, DYLAN

After her historic gratitude at Los Angeles City Hall, the first of its kind ever bestowed upon an Indian actor by Hollywood, Mallika Sherawat was hosted for brunch at a downtown refectory attended by 25 guests.

A source present at the brunch reveals that Mallika sat between studio film director Jesse Dylan (son of legendary musician Bob Dylan) and world famous music composer Yanni.

Overheard was debate of Mallika's next few American film projects of which our source says Mr. Dylan seemed to be concerned. Mr. Dylan directed the Will Ferrell film "Kicking and Screaming" and "American Wedding" for Universal Studios, among others. Also mentioned was music for "Hisss", currently in post-production at a Hollywood facility. Yanni was heard offering to provide his music for the highly-anticipated film.

Some invited guests and friends of Miss Sherawat who were unable to attend include Warner Bros. studio film director Jay Chandrashakur and the 'CEO of HipHop" Russell Simmons, both also rumored to be in talks with the Indian star on upcoming projects.

Have a Look: 15 YEARS OLD PRIYANKA

Priyanka Chopra plays a 15 year old girl in Ashutosh Gowarikar’sWhat’s your Rashee?

“I have worked so hard in this film. Mera khoon pasina behgaya hai is movie mein. Playing 12 different characters was the most demanding thing for me; it’s the first time incredible like this has ever been done. I just hope people like my work in the film,” said Priyanka when asked about her 12 different avatars.

But it was the role of a 15 year old that had Priyanka concerned. She said, “Zhankhana, Capricorn was the toughest character yet, to play a 15 year old girl on top of that a village simpleton was mind racking. We didn’t have any prosthetics and it was only my hair, clothes and body language that helped me mould myself into Zhankhana. Thankfully Ashutosh Sir was very helpful and gave me some useful pointers, so I think it worked out just fine.”

She even got a fake uni-brow look to fit the role of a nerdy little adolescent just about learning to grow up when she has to deal with the utter nonsense of getting married to a man. Her life comes stuck like a telly serial around the idiot block.

No guesses on who's going to hog up all the attention here eh? So long Harman!

YET ONE MORE TATTOO FOR SANJAY DUTT

He’ll be setting a record.

Sanjay Dutt is to get yet another tattoo. Soon after recurring from South Africa recently, Sanjay Dutt went to his tattoo artist Vishwas’ studio and asked him to keep a casing design ready.

By the way, it was Vishwas who inked Sanjay's parents’ names on his chest recently.

This time, Sanjay wants to do a diverse kind of a design on his sleeve. The design is being kept as a secret.

Once he gets the tattoo, Sanjay will have the highest number of tattoos on his body among Bollywood actors.

I'LL MARRY FOR KIDS: SALMAN

Bollywood’s superbrat Salman Khan has smoothed down...he talks to Seema Sinha of bones that throbbing the morning after an action sequence, love and marriage.

Bollywood’s bad boy, known for his ability for walking into trouble, Salman Khan appears to be peacemaker, serene and more and more idealistic.

Sample this statement from the hunk, “I believe in making my own luck. Your future depends on what you are at this point. If you mess up this present instant then you are affecting your future too, but if you are on the right track then it routinely lifts your future, it is like taking your destiny up.”

The original Bollywood hunk shies away from admitting he’s turning truth-seeking, “No, no, I have always been like this. It is very simple — Yes, No, Right, Wrong, Good, Bad, White, Black. That is the philosophy of my life.”

He confesses, however, “Well, you can say I have mellowed over the years, maybe because I have learnt to handle certain things. But there could be things that I won’t be able to handle. It happens from time to time. At times, I don’t react even when I know what people are doing to me is wrong or they are taking advantage of me.” He adds a warning, though, “If things go out of hand, I will come back to what I used to be.”

He enjoys being irregular. “Ten years, 20 years from now... I don’t look that much ahead, I see myself playing football in the next 10 minutes but I’m not too sure. I might just change my mind. I don’t plan anything in life,” he says.

A complete home bird when not shooting, Salman paints, listens to music, works out and spends time with his family. “My only fear in life is losing my family members and close friends.” Known for his kindness, good-hearted Salman dreams of a perfect world. “I have lots of dreams... that nobody should die of hunger, poverty, diseases and everyone should have enough money to save their lives. Torturing and defacement children to beg should stop and education should be every child’s right. All religions that preach or teach wrong things should stop,” he says.

His paintings mostly follow a theme of communal harmony, and he paints a lot of human faces. He enjoys retro music —Hindi and Western tracks — and can often are heard whining old numbers.

On his food preferences, Salman remarks, “These days I prefer vegetarian food for some odd reason. But I like chicken, no mutton right now, rice and roti is also out. I don’t like very spicy food, I prefer it bland. I like only home food.”

After giving a few duds in the last few years, Salman is now turning a new leaf. Never to give up or look back and regret, Salman decided to resurrect his career with what he calls ‘difficult’ films. So the macho hunk decided to take up action subjects showcasing dare-devilry — Wanted Dead or Alive and Veer; Vipul Shah’s performance-oriented, Bollywood musical, London Dreams with Ajay Devgan, and a love story of a married couple — Main aur Mrs Khanna with Kareena Kapoor, all three scheduled to release this year.

“I was losing interest and getting tired as I was doing the same thing over and over again. Nothing much was happening in my career and I wanted to do something that would bring back the enthusiasm in me. Now by doing different genre of films makes me feel interested, look special, feel special and makes me work harder.” Salman explains animatedly.

“For the last five to six years, I have seriously trained for Veer and Wanted. It wasn’t just about building six packs or having the body of a ‘model’, which is easy. I had to look tough and strong and like I can take on the world,” says the actor. But, with advancing age, action-oriented roles are known to play havoc on the bodies of most superstars. “These action sequences are scary as you tend to get hurt all the time. Earlier, when I was younger I would never care even if I broke my bones, I never felt the pain. Haddi toot gayi toh toot gayi chalo... it didn’t matter, but now it pains. Worse is that it pains when I wake up in the morning,” he laughs softly.

Gossip rags have always worked overtime fishing out juicy tidbits from his personal life. Few months back a Mumbai tabloid went to town about an alleged clandestine relationship between his lady-love Katrina Kaif and eternal foe John Abraham. But Salman, whom you would see getting furious at a question like this few years ago, now mockingly responds laughing non-stop, “How sweet... oh my god, I am so insecure!”

On women, Salman has always said that he likes them simple and uncomplicated and covered from top to toe, maybe in a sari. His favourite line on this is, “Upar se thoda aur upar, neeche se thoda aur neeche.”

Salman has also said that it is Katrina’s simplicity that keeps him tied to her. “I love simple girls. Nice, simple, straight. I don’t like women who manipulate and scheme.”

But what surprises Salman is that the speculations about his marriage don’t seem to die, which leaves the actor wondering, “Aren’t you guys fed up of asking about my marriage? It is now become a part of any conversation with me. It is like asking, How are you today?” But does he consider marriage to be an important institution? “Each to his own ya. It all depends upon the way one wants to live his or her life.

This new philosophical attitude towards life helps him rationalise things and put in perspective the eternal question of marriage that keeps popping up in front of him time and again. “If you ask my personal opinion, of course, I consider marriage important. There are different reasons and ways one would get married. It could be for love, romance or it could be for children. I would want to marry for children.”

The forever candid Salman Khan self-admittedly might have lost interest in some of his recent films but he hasn’t lost his sense of humour for sure. While turning the pages of a popular fortnightly, he stops at the story on his arch rival and friend-turned-foe, Shah Rukh Khan, who was recently bestowed with an honorary doctorate in arts and culture. “Arre iss doctor ke paas patients ko bhejo aur ilaaj karao,” (Send the patients to Dr Shah Rukh Khan and get them treated),” he smirks.

In the era of stars who take off for vipassana, yoga or meditation in between their hectic schedules, Salman has a unique way of relaxing. “At times when people are talking to me I go blank. That’s my way of relaxing and meditating. I am not even there. Suddenly, people find me spaced out. That relaxation is enough for me,“ he says. At this point of time I decide to stop my interview and leave. Salman is not with me, he is not listening. He has gone blank. Guess he is meditating!
